Scholarship Program
MBFAA's statewide college scholarship program has awarded our inaugural scholarship in 2002. This program was established to recognize the academic and community achievements of children of area police officers and fire fighters.
The 2002 first place scholarship went to Tilghman Arthur Shamer III, a recent graduate of North Carroll High School, who carries a 3.89 GPA, plays varsity lacrosse and soccer, and plans to attend Drexel, Lehigh or Virginia Tech to pursue his interest in Architecture. His father, Tilghman Arthur Shamer, Sr., is a 29 year veteran of the Baltimore City Fire Department.
Second place was captured by Joseph Clarence Montiminy III, a 2002 graduate of La Plata High School, who is ranked #2 in his class, has represented his school on "It's Academic", and who plans to attend University of Maryland. His father, Joseph Clarence Montiminy, Jr., is the Executive Officer of the Charles County Sheriff's Office and administrator of that county's Cadet program that guides youths interested in law enforcement careers.
As winners of the state scholarships, Shamer and Montiminy have been entered in the national program, which has a grand prize of $10,000.00. We congratulate both of these young men and wish them continued success in all their future endeavors.
As the committee chairman, I am very excited about the program." said Stuart Forchheimer, "It offers us, as an industry, the opportunity to show our deep appreciation for the hard work and dedication of Maryland police and fire fighters. I look forward to continuing and hopefully expanding the program next year."
Stuart Forchheimer, who is President of Homesafe Security Systems in Hunt Valley, arranged for his company to sponsor the program. We all owe Stuart and his company a debt of gratitude for making this important program possible.
